About Estrogen
Estrogens are a group of compounds named for their importance in the estrogen cycle of humans. The three major naturally occurring estrogens in women are estrone (E1), estradiol (E2), and estriol (E3). Estradiol is the predominant estrogen during the reproductive years, both in terms of absolute serum levels, as well as in terms of estrogenic activity. During menopause, estrone is the predominant circulating estrogen, while during pregnancy estriol is the predominant circulating estrogen in terms of serum levels. Although estriol is the most plentiful of the three estrogens, it is also the weakest, whereas estradiol is the strongest, with a potency of approximately 80 times that of estriol. Another type of estrogen called estetrol (E4) is produced only during pregnancy. All of the different forms of estrogen are synthesized from androgens, specifically testosterone and androstenedione by the enzyme aromatase. What we do at Forever Ageless
Estrogen and progesterone applied orally, transvaginally, sublingually, or transdermally have a different spectrum of side-effects and biological outcomes. The determination of optimal preparation, dose, method, and route of administration for each individual patient is the essence and art of age management. Our protocols are highly individualized in order to maximize benefits and minimize even the theoretical side effects. |
Why Optimize Estrogen Levels with Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy
Synthetic estrogens along with synthetic progestins are widely used in oral contraceptives. Estrogens can also be used to suppress lactation after child birth.
Prolonged unopposed estradiol (E2) without concomitant use of progesterone (P4) therapy is known to increase the risk of endometrial cancer. Conjugated equine estrogens and other synthetic estrogens have increased risks of dangerous blood clotting, heart attack, stroke, and vascular dementia, and breast cancer especially when combined with synthetic progestins. |
